The isotope production target rod (20) can include at least one rod central body (40) including an outer shell (65) that defines an internal cavity (66) and a plurality of irradiation targets (70) within the internal cavity (66). The irradiation targets (70) can be positioned in a spatial arrangement utilizing a low nuclear cross-section separating medium (74) to maintain the spatial arrangement.
