Electrical connector assembly and male connector

There is provided an electrical connector assembly in which male contacts are surely engaged with female contacts, whereby the reliability can be increased, and the work efficiency can be improved. A male connector 30 is formed by a male housing 40, female contacts 50, and a retainer 60 for fixing the female contacts 50 to the male housing 40. The retainer 60 is inserted in the direction perpendicular to the insertion/removal direction of the male connector 30 with respect to the female connector 20. The retainer 60 is configured so as to be locked at two stages of a pre-latched state and a latched state with respect to the male housing 40 by a first locking claw and a second locking claw. Thereby, male contacts 22 and female contacts 50 are reliably connected electrically to each other.
