Zusammenfassung:	The method involves closing three switching elements (8-12) of a step automatic transmission for moment transmission and/or power transmission into a forward gear and into a reverse gear, respectively. One of the switching elements (8-12) in the respective forward gear and/or reverse gear is completely opened for a neutral position of the transmission for safety of the transmission from a non desired moment closure and/or force closure. Engine speed delimitation, vehicle parking brake and/or an accelerator pedal operating delimitation are activated.
