Zusammenfassung:Continuous, grouped strip formations (2) are laid continuously onto the web of material (1). In each group, sections are produced in correspondence with a given contour. The formations have different running directions, in relation to the longitudinal axis of the web, and different degrees of coverage. The degree of coverage is selected from a series of possible relative arrangements of the formations. Relative formation arrangements are described in the following. Runs are adjacent, with constant width and no gaps. Alternatively they run at constant spacing. The width is constant, whilst the coverage is increased or decreased. The formations run adjacently but the width increases or decreases. In a further variation the width is increased or decreased, and the coverage is increased or decreased. In a group of formations, a sequence of relative arrangement possibilities (as described) is followed. In a region of the web, several groups of formations are laid down. They cross over each other. Groups run adjacently in one region. Formations are laid down such that some zones are left uncovered. In the equipment used, strips are drawn from a storage unit to one or more laying mechanisms, which are independently operable. Each executes transverse movements, allowing the full width of the web to be covered. Each has guides for the strips, which are adjustably-spaced apart. Ganged adjusters are illustrated and further details of the mechanism are provided. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR equipment producing the reinforced web.
