The portable communication device (14) executes the application program (38) to communicate within a wireless communication system (10) for requesting (100) mobile critical mass information for at least one desired location (70; 80). The mobile critical mass information for the at least one desired location (70; 80) is received (120) and converted (130) into a user-understandable format. The converted mobile critical mass information is displayed (140) as crowdedness information on a display (42) of the portable communication device (14). Portable communication device users can seek out or avoid crowds depending on their preference.
