The gas injection system comprises a gas fuel tank, a shut off valve and a plurality of gas injection valves. The method comprises the steps of: Closing the shut of valve, operating the engine with the liquid fuel and subsequently opening all gas fuel injection valves in a set pattern, while the shutoff valve is still closed.
