Method for testing an imprint and imprint testing device

The method involves scanning an overprint (52), and forming data codes (36, 38, 40, 42). The data codes are compared with a set of check data codes in a stored data set. A determination is made whether the data codes are classified as acceptable or non acceptable incorrect code during finding of the data codes in the data set. A preset deviation of the data codes from the check data codes of the data set is allowed for finding the data codes in the data set. An authorized deviation is dependent on whether the check data codes are classified as acceptable or non acceptable incorrect data.
