Disclosed within is a dental abutment comprising: a base portion configured for engagement with a dental implant; an emergence profile portion comprising a concave surface, a cross-sectional diameter of the abutment being less in the region of the concave surface than the widest extent of a portion of the abutment located apically with respect to the concave surface; a tapered coronal portion positioned coronal of the emergence profile portion; and a margin shoulder comprising an arcuate transition zone extending between an outermost edge of the emergence profile portion and the tapered coronal portion, the arcuate transition zone having a variable radius of curvature, wherein the margin shoulder further comprises an interproximal aspect that continuously slopes, such that a lingual side of the margin shoulder extends to a higher point than a facial side of the margin shoulder relative to the base portion.
