Zusammenfassung:	The present invention provides novel (diagnostic) methods of detecting cancer of the central nervous system, preferably oligodendrogliomas, by detecting the presence of CITED4-nucleic acid sequences in a biological sample. The present invention furthermore provides a (diagnostic) method for determining the degree of methylation of the promoter region of the CITED4 gene in a biological sample. As a further embodiment, a method for gene-therapy suitable for treating or preventing cancers of the central nervous system, preferably oligodendrogliomas, is provided. Finally, nucleic acid sequences, amino acid sequences, vectors, pharmaceutical compositions and kits, suitable in these inventive methods are disclosed herewith.
