Alarm consolidaton in IT infrastructures

A method is provided of consolidating alarm notifications in a fault management system of an IT infrastructure, wherein creation of alarm objects is indicated by initial notifications, and correlations or reductions performed on alarm objects by a reduction-correlation mechanism are indicated by follow-on notifications. Individually for the alarm objects, a parameter-dependent delay period is determined, and if follow-on notifications appear during the delay period, the initial and follow-on notifications are consolidated, and after expiration of the delay period, a consolidated notification is sent to a user. If no follow-on notifications appear during the delay period, initial notifications are sent to the user, after expiration of the delay period.
