Zusammenfassung:	The present invention provides a process of preparing a contact lens comprising polymerising a polymerisable mixture, wherein said polymerisable mixture has the principal polymerisable monomers hydroxypropyl methacrylate (HPMA) and 2,3-dihydroxypropyl methacrylate (GMA). In another embodiment, the present invention provides an unhydrated contact lens comprising a polymer containing an alkali metal salt of (meth)acrylic acid and a process of preparing an unhydrated contact lens comprising polymerising a polymerisable mixture, wherein said polymerisable mixture includes an alkali metal salt of (meth)acrylic acid.
