THREADS, FIBRES AND FILAMENTS FOR WEAVING WITHOUT SIZING

Yarn, fibres or filaments which can be woven without sizing, in which the fibre surface is modified with a graft copolymer comprising (a) anchoring sequence(s) with basic nitrogen groups, (b) hydrophobic sequence(s) based on monomers with low solubility and (c) hydrophilic sequence(s) based on monomers with higher solubility. Yarn, fibres or filaments (I) which can be woven without sizing, in which the fibre surface is modified with a graft copolymer (II) with at least 3 distinct chemical sequences comprising (a) 1-80 (preferably 5-40) wt% anchoring sequence(s) consisting of a hydrocarbon chain (linear, branched, cycloalkyl or aromatic) with basic nitrogen groups selected from heterocycles, -NH 2, -NH-, -NHR, -NR 2, -CONH 2, -CONHR or -CONR 2 (in which R : 1-6C alkyl, optionally substituted with OH, -COO-, -CO-, -O- or -SO 3H ) and possibly also with -COO- groups, the amount of basic nitrogen monomer in the anchor chain being at least 5 (preferably 30) %, (b) at least 10 (preferably 25-80) wt% hydrophobic sequence(s) comprising a hydrocarbon chain (see above), possibly with the groups -COO-, -S-, -F or -Si(OR') n(R) 2 - n- (in which R', R : 1-10C alkyl or aryl; n : 0-2 ), formed from monomer units with a solubility parameter of not mor e than 21.5 (preferably less than 19) J 1> > 2>/cm 3> > 2>, and (c) at least 10 (preferably 15-70) wt% hydrophilic sequence(s) comprising a hydrocarbon chain (see above) with the groups -O-, -OH, -NCO, -COO-, -COOH, -CONH 2, -CONHR', -NH-, -S- or -SO 3H (in which R' : 1-3C alkyl ), formed from monomer units with a solubility parameter of more than 22 (preferably more than 22.5) J(1 > 2>/cm 3> > 2>. Independent claims are also included for (1) a method (M1) for the production of (I) by spinning the fibre material, possibly stretching and texturing the thread etc. and then treating it with a liquid containing (II) (2) fabric containing (I) (3) a method (M2) for the production of warp/weft fabric by weaving (I).
