Zusammenfassung:	A liquid crystal display device (LCD) capable of avoiding damage due to external strain and a mobile communication unit using the same are disclosed. The LCD comprises a glass substrate 5 on one surface of which an LCD driver IC 11 is mounted by the COG (Chip On Glass) technique. A metallic light shielding plate 16 having a drawing processed portion 17 is mounted by way of a double-coated tape 16 on the other surface of the glass substrate 5 opposite to the surface on which the LCD driver IC 11 is mounted.
