Zusammenfassung:A method for the cationisation of starch from leguminous plants by reacting the granular or gelatinised starch with a cationic reagent involves performing the reaction in the presence of water only and in the absence of any other solvent, under conditions such that the wt. ratio (R) of water to starch = 1/1000-100/1, preferably 1/1000-10/1. Independent claims are also included for (1) cationic starch (I) obtained by this method, with a nitrogen content 0.1-4 (preferably 0.4-1.8) % (2) starch compositions (preferably aqueous) containing (I) (3) a method for the production of paper using (I) or a composition as above containing (I) (4) paper or flat cardboard obtained by this method.
