SECURE ELECTRONIC REGISTRATION AND VOTING SOLUTION

A method for secure voting is provided and a central hosting facility for performing the method. The method comprises: identifying and authenticating a user as a valid voter, wherein the voter is assigned a roaming digital certificate; providing a ballot for use by the voter in response to a request from the voter; receiving a completed ballot from the voter, digitally signed using the roaming digital certificate assigned to the voter; time stamping the completed ballot and encrypting the ballot with the voter's symmetric key; encrypting the voter's symmetric key with a local election office's public key; causing storing of the encrypted ballot and the associated encrypted symmetric key; and enabling the local election office to access the encrypted ballot and decrypt the encrypted ballot using the associated encrypted symmetric key
