A hair treatment composition contains copolymer(s) of two monomers, where the first monomer is an itaconic acid monoester of formula CH2=CH(COOR1>)CH2COOR2> and the second monomer is an acrylate monomer; and polystyrene sulfonate(s) with a molecular weight of 50000-200000. R1> and R2>H or -(CH2CH2)x-R3>; x : 1-100; R3>8-30C alkyl. Es wird ein Haarbehandlungsmittel beschrieben mit einem Gehalt an einer Kombination aus einem Itaconsäuremonoester/Acrylat Copolymer und einem Polystyrolsulfonat mit einem Molekulargewicht im Bereich von 50.000 bis 200.000. Die Itaconsäuremonoester haben die allgemeine Formel CH2=C(COOR )CH2COOR wobei einer der Substituenten R und R für Wasserstoff und der andere für die Gruppe -(CH2CH2O)x-R steht, x eine Zahl zwischen 1 und 100 bedeutet und R eine Alkylgruppe mit 8 bis 30 C-Atomen bedeutet.
