A co-extruded multilayer film comprises a modified thermoplastic starch blend layer containing above 1-10 wt.% water; and a layer of a biodegradable polyester, the layer (A) being free of polyhydroxyalkanoate copolymers consisting of >=2 repeat units of formula (I) and of formula (I) and/or (III). [Image] R 1>H or 1 or 2C alkyl; R 2> = 3-19 alkyl or alkenyl; n : 1 or 2; and m : 2-9. An independent claim is also claimed for production of the multilayer film by co-extrusion with the layers having similar melt and viscosity properties and layer (A) containing 1-10 wt.% water.
