Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to head rest connected to the backrest (5) of a vehicle, whereby an upholstered segment (9) which is displaceably mounted in relation to the base body (1) of the head rest can be displaced in the case of an accident, by means of a power generating device, moving from a working position to a safety position in the direction of the head of the passenger and said device can be stopped by means of a locking device. The locking device comprises a telescopic element (11) which is supported on the base body (1) and is connected to the displaceable upholstered segment (9), whereby the restoring forces (FR) acting on the upholstered element can be guided into the telescopic element in a direction deviating from the axis (X) of said telescopic element.
