Zusammenfassung:A supported catalyst composition for the oxychlorination of ethylene comprises 3-12 wt.% copper as copper salt and 0.001-0.1 (0.005-0.05) wt.% of ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium and/or platinum and/or 0.0001-0.1 (0.001-0.05) wt.% gold as the corresponding metal salt of tetrachloroauric acid. A catalyst composition (I) for the oxychlorination of ethylene comprises a mixture of metal salts on a support and consists of (wt. % with respect to total weight of the catalyst including support): (A) copper as copper salt (3-12); (B) an alkaline earth metal as a salt (0-3); (C) an alkali metal as a salt (0-3); and (D) ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium and/or platinum (0.005-0.05) and/or gold as the corresponding metal salt of tetrachloroauric acid (0.001-0.05). An independent claim is also included for a process for the production of 1,2-dichloroethane by oxychlorination of ethylene using the catalyst composition (I).
