Eye monitoring and reconstruction using CDR and subsampling ADC

The method involves generating an eye pattern from received serial data signal within a receiver, and evaluating pre-defined characteristics of the eye pattern within the receiver. Receiver parameters are adjusted based on the evaluated result. The evaluating process involves measuring a pre-defined characteristic to generate a measured value and comparing the measured value to a pre-defined test value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method of monitoring an eye pattern of a serial data signal within a receiver of a serial data communication system (b) an apparatus for constructing and monitoring an eye pattern from a serial data signal received by a receiver.
