Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method for producing a data carrier such as an ID card or a credit card or a document of value or a security document. The data carrier comprises at least one first item of information (3) which is optically visible,especially readable, on the data carrier and is suitable for individualizing the data carrier in relation to other data carriers.The first item of information (3) is encrypted by means of an algorithm and the result of the encryption is stored on the data carrier in order to protect the data carrier against falsifications or manipulations.
