Zusammenfassung:	The method of gas shielded arc welding steel railroad rails involves the steps of filling the base gap, the web gap and the head gap with a molten steel from a filler metal electrode by a gas shielded electric arc process. The filling of the head gap involves continuously sequentially moving the electrode in laterally opposite directions in the head gap along paths having starting and ending ends in the corresponding one of the opposite directions for laying beads of filler metal along the paths. Another step is delaying movement of the electrode from the starting end of each the path for a preselected period of time.
