Method for displaying error messages on a microcomputer

Method for output of error signals during boot up of a microcomputer or PC, whereby the computer has an audio interface, a loudspeaker and non-volatile BIOS memory for storage of input-output routines. A number of audio-sequences are stored in computer BIOS memory and at start-up self test if an error is detected the corresponding error signal is played back. The audio sequences correspond to spoken descriptions of the error type and are stored as text sequences in audio coding. To save memory the speech is compressed and is coded or decoded using a decoder.
