Each of the display means (45, 46, 47, 48) comprises a spatial light modulator (45, 47), an extended light source, an array of apertures (62, 69) whose pitch is greater than twice the aperture width, and a parallax screen (46, 48, 64) for controlling the direction of illumination of the modulator (44, 47) by light from the apertures (62, 69).
