The composite particles contain pigment particle with adsorbed polymer particles. The polymer particles contain pendant acid functional groups and has a molecular weight in a select range. Also provided are methods of preparing the aqueous composite particle composition. The aqueous composite particle composition is useful for preparing coating with high gloss and improved solvent resistance.
