Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to the use of hydroxystilbene compounds of formula (1), wherein A means a radical of formula (1a) or a radical of formula (1b) and R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5, independently of each other, mean hydrogen, halogen, hydroxy, C1-C16-alkyl, C1-C16-alkoxy, phenyl; C1-C3-phenylalkyl; C6-C10-aryloxy, amino, mono-C1-C5-alkylamino, Di-C1-C5-alkylamino, or -NO2; as microbicidal active substances. These compounds have a marked effect on pathogenic Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as on yeasts and moulds. For this reason, they are suitable for antimicrobial treatments, especially for preserving and disinfecting surfaces.
