Zusammenfassung:	Disclosed is a method for estimating the transmission quality of a digital communication signal. According to the inventive method, a variable is determined for each bit of information that is transmitted by a transmitter to a receiver, whereby said variable acts as a measure for the reliability of correct detection thereof and is subjected to low pass filtering. A device (1) for carrying out said method can be connected to an equalizer (3). Said device comprises a low pass filter (5) that filters the probability value and delivers a representative signal for the estimation of transmission quality.
