A metering or proportioning valve for a fluid (a liquid or a gas) has a housing (2) with a valve cavity (18) for receiving a valve needle (7) which forms a valve with the housing wall. An actuator cavity (17) is provided for accommodating the piezo- actuator (4) in which a hydraulic piston (1) supports the piezo- actuator (4) on the side facing away from the valve needle (7). An equalisation cavity (13) is joined to the hydraulic chamber (3), both being filled with a pressurised hydraulic fluid, the join being formed by a throttle or restriction diaphragm (12) or by the combination of a packed sealing gap (21) with an equalising/balancing boring (20), such that the system, hydraulic chamber- equalising cavity- hydraulic fluid, forms a dynamically rigid bearing for the piezo-actuator and a length equalising element for more protracted processes.
