Zusammenfassung:	The data communications system has at least two data processing units (9,10) connected via a bus (8) with two cables (6,7) h at different potentials at least during data communications. Data produced by a controller (1) are modulated onto at least one l using a modulation signal generated by at least one driver (2,3). A short circuit detector (1,4,5) detects a short circuit of one of the cables and switches off the associated driver and/or switches over the polarity of the cables depending on the detection.
