Zusammenfassung:The spot welder has two electrodes. An acoustic sensor in the first electrode emits a burst of acoustic energy which passes through the weld to be received by a sensor in the second electrode. The receiving sensor emits a signal, representative of the geometry of the weld nugget, to a computer. The electrode (10) comprises a shell (13) with an electrode cap (14) and lower (16) and upper (18) adapters. Coolant flows between internal (22) and outer (24) sleeves. The internal sleeve and the lower adapter support an ultrasonic probe (20). A structural support (23) comprises upper (32) and lower (34) ultrasonic probe holders. The present invention provides an electrode assembly for a spot welder which has an acoustic sensor built therein. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a spot welder has a first and second electrode assembly according to the present invention. During welding, the acoustic sensor from the first electrode assembly selectively generates a burst of acoustic energy which passes through a weld subject and is received by the second electrode assembly. The acoustic sensor in the second transducer then emits an output signal, representative of the geometry of the weld nugget, to a computer.
