Optical memory apparatus

A memory apparatus for reading data from a memory medium accommodated in a cartridge comprises a base (20) having a surface for sliding an inserted cartridge thereover, said sliding surface having an opening therein, a metal plate (21) having a pair of pin holders on respective opposite sides of the metal plate and a pair of pins (23a,23b) held by respective pin holders (23a',23b'), a motor mounted on the metal plate, a turntable (22) mounted on the motor, a load member (24) having sloped guides (85a,85b) which engage said pins and move the metal plate in a direction substantially perpendicular to the sliding surface of the base when the load member moves between a first position and a second position in a direction substantially parallel to the sliding surface of the base, wherein the turntable is located above the sliding surface of the base when the load member is positioned at the first position, and the turntable is located below the sliding surface when the load member is positioned at the second position.
