Zusammenfassung:	Copper-based catalysts (I), obtained by atomising molten metallic copper into a receiving medium (II) which is at a temperature below the m.pt. of Cu, and then isolating and oxidising the solidified Cu particles. Also claimed is (i) a process as described above for the production of copper-based oxide catalysts, and (ii) a process for the production of alkyl- halogen-silanes by reacting silicon with alkyl halides at 250- 380 degrees C in presence of (I) and possibly promoters.
