HAIR STYLING COMPOSITIONS

The present invention relates to leave-on hair styling compositions comprising from greater than 0.5% to about 5% of a water soluble, non-polymeric mineral salt, from about 0.05% to about 0.5% of a lipophilic material, from about 0.01% to about 0.5% of a surfactant, and an aqueous carrier. The surfactant is selected from the group consisting of amphoteric surfactants, anionic surfactants, and nonionic surfactants having the formulaor R1R2R3Z->O, and mixtures thereof. The compositions comprise less than 0.01% cationic surfactant, less than about 0.2% of a chemical protein modifying agent, less than 0.01% formate, sorbate, salicylate and carbonate compounds, and less than about 0.2% of a polymer having a solubility parameter of from about 8.5 to about 12.0 (cal/cm3)½. Further, the composition has a hair friction index of at least 1.07.
