Zusammenfassung:	A method and assembly useful in metal joining processes is disclosed which blocks the deposition of molten metal in openings (64) during brazing. The method involves disposing in the opening (64) a shim (88) of mica material with a binder to block the flow of molten metal. The shim (88) may be compressed into the opening (64) so as to support the walls thereof. Thus in certain embodiments, the mica material supports elements of the articles being brazed.
