Zusammenfassung:	A monitor (8) for analysing a body fluid for diffusable chemical substances comprises a liquid filled probe (9), for example a catheter, having a region (15) contactable with the body fluid within the body and permeable to chemical substances of interest. A sensor unit (19) is in liquid communication with the probe and has sensors (18a..c), each with an electrical output dependent on the presence of a chemical substance of interest. A periodic analysis of the probe liquid is provided from the sensor unit (19) and a pumping system (17) is adapted to circulate the probe liquid around a closed liquid flow path (13,14,15), comprising the permeable region (15) of the probe (9), a plurality of times in each period between the analysis of the liquid.
