Zusammenfassung:	The process of the present invention is characterized in the steps of uniformly mixing powdery or fibrous aluminum oxide and a powder which is boron oxide or which is to be converted into boron oxide by heating, and heating the mixture. Furthermore, the process comprises the steps of compressing powdery or fibrous aluminum oxide to mold the aluminum oxide, providing on the molded article surface a powder which is boron oxide or which is to be converted into boron oxide by heating, and heating the molded article. The present invention further provides alumina fibers which are produced by heating boron oxide in advance, and a piston in which alumina fibers are composed.
