At the labyrinth entry (40), the cavity is divided radially into two or more axially offset part cavities. The shroud plate is stepped, and has at least two throttle points against the stator. Horizontal curved sealing strips (17) on the stator enclose eddy chambers and each act on a shroud plate step. The radial outward facing surfaces of the shroud are angled against the flow direction.
