Zusammenfassung:	A recording and reproducing system for recording a first information flow on an information carrier and simultaneously processing a further information flow via the information carrier. The system includes a reading/writing unit for alternately writing and reading information on the information carrier, and a buffer for buffering information during recording and/or reproduction. The system includes a controller for controlling the recording of the first information flow depending on a data rate required for processing the further information flow. The system may also include a controllable compression means or a controllable transcoder. At a certain transmission rate of the system, the available data rate can be used to more advantage during recording, while there is always a minimum data rate available for recording in the simultaneous reproduction/recording mode.
