Motor vehicle steering column assembly

The steering column adjustment unit has an electrically driven device to adjust the longitudinal position and inclination. Apart from the drive unit (10) to rotate the adjusting spindle 912), the adjuster (3) has at least two spindle nuts (21,41). For the longitudinal position and inclination adjustment, each uses at least one mechanism (20,40) and a switch device (24,44). Between each of the switch devices and the neighbouring spindle nut, a positive locking connection can be made. The switch devices are designed as a lifting magnet provided with a moving peg engaging with corresponding recesses in the spindle nuts. These recesses are located around the periphery of the nuts.
