Coupling device for landing doors of an elevator

The lift and shaft doors are coupled together by a magnetic catch comprising an electro-magnet on the lift door and a magnetic anchor (9) on the shaft door. The electro-magnet is mounted on support levers (21) which are operated by a servo drive (27), e.g. an electric motor, to move the electro-magnet between a retracted position and an operating position. This prevents fouling the floor treads at each level. The mating surfaces of the electro-magnetic and the anchor are grooved vertically to provide an improved grip when dragging the shaft door open or closed. The servo drive and lever mounting are adjusted to provide a set air gap between the electro-magnetic and the anchor prior to activating the electro-magnet.
