Zusammenfassung:	The method is applied to a system (1) delivering position-dependent signals (SD) on a transmission line (5) leading to the processor (2), which is also connected via power supply lines (9,10) to a signal conditioner (8) operating on the output from a diagnostic unit (6). The analogue position signals (SA) are produced by a scanner (3) and divided between the digitiser (4) and the diagnostic unit. The information may be encoded by modulation of the transmission line current or voltage, or by defined variation of the current consumption of the scanner.
