Zusammenfassung:	The head of a chromatography column incorporates a frit (2) above which there is a gas chamber (3) and a pressurised gas supply (4) maintaining the gas pressure in the chamber (3) at a required level. The gas chamber (3) also incorporates one or two inlets through which the elution agent and sample are introduced either together or separately as a spray. Also claimed are supplementary impedance, resistance or capacity measuring assemblies which determine the level of fluid in the column.
