Pedestrian crossing aid for the visually impaired

The traffic signal is associated with intersections and pedestrian crossings, and comprises a cylindrical body attached to the post supporting the traffic signals. The cylinder carries luminous indication of state of the traffic signals for the partially sighted. A control button is provided to allow the pedestrian to request that the lights change. The control button is marked in Braille with additional data: the number of lanes to be crossed; the direction of the traffic; the name of the street; the number of the nearest door and any other useful information. The unit comprises a cylinder which houses an audible or vibratory system to indicate when it is safe to cross the road.
