Split ring inflator adapter

The airbag module assembly includes a reaction canister and an inflator housing adjoining the reaction canister having a first end defining a keyway and a second end having an outer and an inner surface defining circular mounting opening. There is a cylindrical inflator within the housing having a first end carrying a key supported in the keyway and a circular second end. The improvement comprises a tubular, cylindrical adapter having a base end seated within the mounting opening and a flange extending radially outwardly from the base end against the outer surface, and a socket end surrounding and gripping the second end of the inflator. There is an inwardly extending circumferential rib positioned to bear against the second end of the inflator and a slot extending longitudinally through the adaptor to allow radial expansion.
