A method for preparing difluoroacetic acid fluoride, which comprises reacting a 1-alkoxy-1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane of the formula HCF2CF2OR wherein R is a C1-4 alkyl group in a gas phase in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst.
