Zusammenfassung:	Alkaline aq. black-and-white photographic developer comprise hydroquinone developer (A), auxiliary developer (B), diolaldehyde hardener (c), organic antifoggant (D), sulphite antioxidant (E), buffer (F) and sequestering agent (G). (G) is a oligomeric carboxyl.substd. hydrocarbon having sub-units of formula (I) and (II). R is 2-4C alkyl. Also claimed is developer as above where (B) comprises 3-pyrozolidinates and aminophenols, (d) is selected from benzimidazole and benzatriazole antifoggants and (G) contains repeat units of formula (III). In (III) R is ethyl, propyl or butyl; and m = 1-10.
