Zusammenfassung:	The method comprises adjusting one end of the wound coil by a known amount with respect to the other end so that the length of fibre between the midpoint of the winding pattern and one end differs from that between the centre and the other end by the amount, attaching the adjusted coil to test apparatus arranged so that the performance of the coil in an interferometer may be ascertained, observing the performance of the adjusted coil in the apparatus, repeating the above steps until an acceptable level of bias error is observed, and then removing the adjusted coil from the test apparatus. The step of observing the performance of the adjusted coil further includes varying the temperature of the coil at a predetermined rate, and measuring the bias error in the output of the test apparatus, and then determining the Shupe effect coefficient of the adjusted coil.
