Zusammenfassung:A particulate trap for purifying diesel engine exhaust gas is provided that is high in trapping efficiency with a low pressure loss and which is resistant to thermal shock by temperature increase and cooling at the time of regeneration. A particulate trap for purifying diesel engine exhaust gas comprising a container (12) provided midway along the length of an exhaust system, and filter elements (4, 5) mounted in the container, characterized in that the filter elements each comprise a three dimensional network porous structure (1) constituted by a heat resistant metal framework having communicating air pores (2), that the average diameter of the air pores ranges from 0.1 to 1mm, that the average number of the air pores in a thickness direction of the filter elements is ten or more, that the volume packing rate accounted for by the metal framework at the filtering portions of the filter elements ranges from 10 to 40 %, and that the exhaust gas inflow surface area of the filter elements is 400 cm or more per one liter exhaust of an engine on which the trap is mounted.
