Method of surface finishing orthopaedic implant devices using a bioactive blasting medium

An implant is surface finished by blasting with bioactive shot comprising Ca phosphate cermics, phosphate glass, bioabsorbable or partially bioabsorbable glass, partially or wholly bioabsorbable or nonbioabsorbable bioceramic. The metal is e.g. hot-forged or cold-worked 22Cr-13Ni-5Mn stainless steel...

Zusammenfassung:An implant is surface finished by blasting with bioactive shot comprising Ca phosphate cermics, phosphate glass, bioabsorbable or partially bioabsorbable glass, partially or wholly bioabsorbable or nonbioabsorbable bioceramic. The metal is e.g. hot-forged or cold-worked 22Cr-13Ni-5Mn stainless steel or 316L stainless steel, used in fracture fixation devices. If the implant is for bone ingrowth, the blasting substance is e.g. hydroxyapatite to further enhance bone growth.
