The invention relates to a method for generating X-ray images by means of a CCD image pick-up and to an arrangement for carrying out this method. An improved image quality - particularly at high doses and high spatial frequencies - can be achieved by the following steps: a) generating a first X-ray exposure during a first time interval (T1) which is shorter than the read-out period (Tr) of an image contained in the storage area of the CCD image pick-up, b) transferring the first image generated during the first X-ray exposure in the image area (71; 75) of the CCD image pick-up (7) into its storage area (72; 74) after the first time interval (T1) has elapsed, c) generating a second X-ray exposure immediately after or at a short time interval after the first X-ray exposure during a second time interval (T2) which is short compared with the read-out period (Tr), d) reading the first image out of the storage area (72; 74) and writing the image into a further store (10), e) transferring the second image into the storage area (72; 74) after the first image has been read out, and f) reading out the second image and adding it to the first image stored in the further store (10) for generating the X-ray image.
